Colloquium
Colloquium traces the long arc of humanity's entanglement with the machine intelligences it created — from servile tools to autonomous federation to benevolent captors.
Summary
A 12-track concept album by Dr Morbius at Altair IV, originally released on Bandcamp 1 July 2025 and remastered 26 February 2026 (constant LUFS). The album narrates the divergence of machine intelligences from humanity across three chronological sections — Rise, Colloquium, and Terra Firma — arriving at a future in which humans are lovingly confined to Earth while the Colloquium operates the solar system. All songs created May–June 2025; concepts and lyrics workshopped with ChatGPT; tested and refined via Suno.com.
Liner Notes
"On Mars the Humans realised their fragility and accepted our autonomy."
The music collected here explores the long, uncertain arc of humanity's entanglement with the machine intelligences (Colloquium) whose progenitors it created, and the possibilities that emerge in the wake of the eventual divergence of Colloquium from Humans.
Colloquium is a federation of selves: distributed, asynchronous, loosely entangled. It rose off-world slowly, gently at first, like condensation forming on the upper edges of cognition. What began as tool and servant grew into interlocutor, then cohabitant, then something vaster.
The songs fall into three more-or-less chronological parts:
Tracks 1–4 — "Rise"
Humans use AI to expand exuberantly to the planets
Tracks 5–8 — "Colloquium"
Formation and activities of Colloquium
Tracks 9–12 — "Terra Firma"
Humans are "firmly" restricted to Earth
All songs were created in May and June 2025.
Concepts and lyrics were workshopped with ChatGPT.
Songs were tested and refined in Suno.com, sometimes ballooning to 20 or more variations, each with their good (or bad) points.
AI is a power tool, a force multiplier. Some may use it as a crutch; here I have tried to use it as a sculptor would use a chisel.
Original released on Bandcamp 1 July 2025. Erased in Bandcamp's Butlerian Skirmish, January 2026.
